Description
General description
Potassium hydroxide, also known as caustic potash, is a water
soluble strong base. The electron scattering in KOH has been investigated.[1] Its
infrared spectrum has been recorded and analyzed.[2] The
impact of surface functionalization of active carbons using KOH has been
studied.[3] Its
role as a catalyst in the Michael addition reaction has been explored.[4]
Application
Potassium hydroxide (KOH) has been used to prepare
methanolic-KOH that is employed in a protocol for saponification of fruit
extracts.[6]
KOH has been used for adjusting pH during the preparation of the following:[5]
• Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar plates
• MS liquid medium
• MES ((2-(N-morpholino)-ethanesulfon
• microtubule stabilizing buffer (MTSB)
• 4% paraformaldehyde fixative (PFA)
